Richard Meagher

Richard has extensive experience in Mental Health and before undertaking his Clinical Masters, worked as a School Psychologist for several years. Over the past 10 years, Richard has worked in various settings, including private practice, Swinburne University Psychology Clinic and Alfred Hospital Child and Youth Mental Health Service.

When not at Redleaf, Richard works supporting members of Australia’s Defence Force and their families in private practice. He is also undertaking a Graduate Certificate of Medicine in Science in Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy.

Therapy style and influences

Richard is a Clinical Psychologist who provides a safe space for clients to speak about experiences that are distressing or difficult to make sense of. He approaches therapeutic work with a sense of genuineness, curiosity, and collaboration.

Richard has completed training in a range of treatment modalities, such as:

  • Family Based Treatment (FBT)
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy – Enhanced (CBT-E)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Schema Therapy
  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy


Richard’s research has focused on developing psychological treatment for individuals experiencing difficulties with anxiety and worry. He has also contributed to researching novel attention training research for children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Richard has presented his research on childhood anxiety at various conferences.

Richard is a motorsport enthusiast and can often be found working on his car in his spare time. He also enjoys cycling and bushwalking.
